bits&bites: An open letter to vintage editors →
A quick search on the term reveals that the popular use of the term vintage is definitely NOT agreed upon. One web site said it was something that is so old that it’s now in fashion again… For me it’s a nearly useless term when used as a tag. It’s kinda like calling something ancient. It’s original use as a designation for a specific year as in wine is THE definition....

NO BLASTERS!: My TSA Encounter →
One MAJOR point here. This guy was entering the US & already in the country where his rights applied. Getting on a flight is completely different. The TSA sees this as a privilege & a choice therefore is doesn’t restrict your movement. Take a train or a boat. In this case it obviously restricted his free movement as a citizen. He had no alternative. noblasters: “You don’t need...

“Do I have your loyalty?”
Ah yes. I think these are the kids of the “Golden Ears” of the 70’s who were willing to pay more for interconnects than their amplifiers. Amazing what the imagination can do. merlin: Last night, I was reading some of the angry Amazon reviews of the “Coppola Restoration” of The Godfather trilogy. Hi-larious. Way Wrong Zero
I love, love, love what Merlin writes. He’s so earnest in his words & feelings. But sometimes HIS love of language can add a layer of density over his succinct meaning that it takes more than a typical Inbox Zero to suss out. My money is on the reality that Alyssa can’t do enough sussing to catch the deeper meaning that she speedily passed by on her way to jumping conclusions. I...

Media decomposition
Merlin is right on this. “Outlets” have to decide what their sales model is. Yeah you can wall your garden and charge folks to take a peek. BUT you better be pretty damn sure the folks will to buy those protected posies are the ones that will help you carry forward in the future. I just don’t see the payer types convincing other potential payers to pay.It smells like desperation...

Engadget Turns Off Comments
Ooh maybe John Casasanta will make a duplicate of Engadget with comments. Cool new form of comment. If you can’t go to someone’s house and yell at them well then build an exact duplicate. Invite all the very best people to yell as loud as they can trying to drowned out each other. That’ll fix them. merlin: tj: Most major tech sites would be a lot better off with comments...
